Nikon D500
My go-to for wildlife photography
A crop sensor (APS-C) body which gives an effective 1.5x focal length multiplier, so a 300mm lens becomes an effective 450mm reach. This makes it my go-to for wildlife and birds, especially from the hide where reach really matters. The autofocus system is genuinely one of the best ever made for moving subjects. Bought second hand and still outstanding.

Produces beautiful results and in lower light conditions!
A full frame body which captures more light and produces beautiful results in lower light conditions, dawn and dusk shoots especially. I use this when I want the best possible image quality and the light is doing something special. Heavier to carry but worth it for the right moment. Also preloved 😊

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR
A faster, lighter option than the full zoom. Beautiful image
Higher quality images than the super-zoom and a bit lighter too.

Great reach for nature paired with a crop sensor, budget buy
Great reach for nature paired with a crop sensor (I use Nikon D500), budget end of super-zoom lenses.
